Privacy policy
This policy has three parts: A — this website, B — our internal publishing tool “Beautiful Math Publisher”, C — our channels on YouTube and Facebook.
A. This website
A.1 Controller
Fahmi Waez, Callenberger Str. 40a, 96450 Coburg, Germany
E-mail: info@beautifulmathematics.com
A.2 In short
- We set no cookies and store nothing on your device (no local storage, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting).
- We use no analytics or advertising services.
- Fonts and images are served from our own server.
- YouTube videos load only after you click on them (see A.5).
A.3 Server log files
When you open a page, our web server automatically records: the shortened IP address (the last block is removed before it is written to the log), date and time, the requested address, the referring page, the HTTP status code, the amount of data transferred, and the browser identification (user agent).
- Purpose: to deliver the website, to keep it secure (for example against attacks) and to find errors.
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in a secure and working website.
- Retention: log files are deleted automatically after 14 days. We only keep aggregated figures without personal data (for example: how often a page was requested).
- Hosting: the website runs on a server in Germany that we rent from STRATO GmbH, Pascalstraße 10, 10587 Berlin, under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).
A.4 No storage on your device
We do not store information on your device and do not read information from it (§ 25 TDDDG). Your browser may keep copies of our pages, fonts and images in its normal cache; that is a function of your browser, which you control in its settings.
A.5 YouTube videos
Our articles show our own YouTube videos. As long as you have not clicked, the page only shows a still image from our own server, and no connection to YouTube is made.
When you click on a video, it is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. From that moment, YouTube receives at least your IP address, technical data about your browser and the address of our page, and YouTube may store information on your device. Data may also be processed by Google LLC in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision of the European Commission of 10 July 2023).
- Legal basis: your consent by clicking the video — Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG. You can withdraw it for the future by not playing videos and by deleting YouTube data in your browser.
- Instead of playing the video here, you can always use the link “Watch on YouTube”.
- Details: Google Privacy Policy.
A.6 Links to other websites
Links to YouTube, Facebook or sources are ordinary links. Nothing is transmitted to those services before you click. After you click, the privacy policy of the other website applies.
A.7 Contact by e-mail
If you write to us, we process your e-mail address, your message and any data you include, in order to answer you (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; for enquiries about a contract Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). We delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed, unless legal retention periods apply. Our mailbox runs on a server we rent from STRATO GmbH, Pascalstraße 10, 10587 Berlin, Germany, under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR); incoming messages are checked for spam and viruses on that server.
A.8 Search engines
We use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to see how our pages appear in search results. These services give us aggregated reports (for example, how often a page was shown in results). There is no tracking code on our pages for this, and we pass no visitor data to these services. When a page changes, we notify search engines of its address (IndexNow); this message contains no visitor data.
A.9 Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21) — in particular to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. You can withdraw a consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)). Write to info@beautifulmathematics.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the one responsible for us: Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.
B. Beautiful Math Publisher (internal publishing tool)
Beautiful Math Publisher is an internal tool operated by Fahmi Waez (contact as in A.1). It is used only by the operator to manage the operator's own YouTube channel and Facebook page “Beautiful Mathematics”.
B.1 What data the tool accesses
- YouTube (Google) data: with the account owner's consent, the tool uses the YouTube Data API and the YouTube Analytics API to read and update metadata of videos on our own channel (titles, descriptions, tags, playlists, privacy status and publishing time), to post and answer comments as our channel, and to read our own channel statistics.
- Facebook data: the tool publishes posts on our own Facebook page and reads its statistics and comments.
The tool does not access, collect or store data of other users or channels.
B.2 How data is stored and protected
Access tokens are transmitted only over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with restricted file permissions on our own server in Germany. They are used only by the tool and are never sold, shared with or transferred to third parties.
B.3 Google API Services User Data Policy
Beautiful Math Publisher's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The tool uses YouTube API Services; by using it you are also bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
B.4 Revoking access
Access can be revoked at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions (Google) or in the Facebook settings under “Business Integrations”. Stored tokens are deleted on request or when no longer needed. See also data deletion.
C. Our channels on YouTube and Facebook
C.1 YouTube channel @Beautiful.of.Mathematics
The platform is operated by Google Ireland Limited, which is responsible for the processing of data on YouTube (Google Privacy Policy). We receive aggregated statistics about our videos (for example views, countries, watch time) and see comments that are posted publicly under our videos. We answer comments publicly on YouTube. We do not create profiles of individual viewers.
C.2 Facebook page “Beautiful Mathematics”
For the statistics of our Facebook page (“Page Insights”), we and Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ireland, are joint controllers under Art. 26 GDPR. Meta has agreed to take primary responsibility for Page Insights data and to fulfil data subjects' rights: Page Insights Controller Addendum. You can exercise your rights directly with Meta, or with us; we will pass requests on. Further information: Meta Privacy Policy.
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in presenting our videos on these platforms and understanding, in aggregate, how they are received.
D. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our website or services change. The date at the top shows the current version.
