Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to read and use this site. Our goal is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.

What we do: every figure has a text description; the site works with the keyboard alone and with screen readers; text can be enlarged to 400 % without loss of content; colour is never the only way information is given; videos never start by themselves and always have a direct link to YouTube, where captions are available.

Known limitations: some historical images (manuscripts, old prints) contain text that is described but not transcribed in full.
